During Women’s History Month, organizations across industries pause to recognize the achievements, resilience, and leadership of women who have helped shape the workplaces and communities we know today. At Synergy Adjusting, this March and every day, we celebrate the women who contribute their expertise, leadership, and perspective to the claims industry and are proud to conclude this month’s celebrations with our final spotlight featuring Laura Fagan.
Laura Fagan, Associate Vice President of Client Services based in Atlanta, Georgia, has spent nearly a decade with Synergy helping build strong client relationships and delivering dependable service to partners across the country. In recognition of Women’s History Month, Laura shares reflections on the women who have influenced her journey, the lessons she carries forward in her career, and the unique strengths women bring to the industry.
Meet Laura Fagan
Recognizing the Contributions of Women
For Laura, Women’s History Month is an important opportunity to acknowledge the progress women have made while recognizing that many contributions throughout history went largely unseen or disregarded. We asked Laura why she believes it is important that we take this time to specifically recognize women’s history together and she said this:
“Historically, the contributions made by women haven’t always been visible or celebrated. Women’s History Month gives us the opportunity to recognize these contributions, as well as acknowledge the progress that has been made in women’s equality.”
She believes the recognitions given throughout this month play an important role in inspiring future generations. Women’s History Month is often the first time that young people learn about the achievements and breakthroughs that have been made by women.
“I think this time helps all women, but particularly girls and younger women, realize their potential and chase their dreams.”
Strength and Resilience in the Face of Challenges
Inspiration often comes from the people closest to us, and for Laura, one of the most impactful examples of strength has come from a friend. “I have a close friend who has been going through breast cancer treatment along with other personal hardships,” Laura said, “She has shown more strength and resilience than I could ever imagine in her position.”
Witnessing her friend’s determination through both personal challenges and professional responsibilities has been deeply moving.
“Having seen her determination both in her personal life and her career, along with her unfailing commitment to her friends and family, has shown that women are often stronger than we realize, and capable of navigating every challenge that we face.”
Laura also noted that experiences like this highlight the supportive nature of the insurance and claims community.
“It has also shown me how deeply supportive this industry can be.”
Believing in Big Dreams
When it comes to inspiration in her professional life, Laura keeps a simple but powerful reminder close at hand. She often reflects on a quote from Walt Disney that encourages bold thinking and perseverance:
“If you can dream it, you can do it.”
The quote is more than just words, it’s something Laura keeps visible in her office as a daily reminder that we are all capable of working to achieve the goals and future that we dream up. She told us, “I actually keep this quote in my office as a reminder that no dream is too big if you work towards it.”
A Grandmother’s Lasting Legacy
While many people have inspired Laura throughout her life, she says the woman who had the most meaningful influence on her was her grandmother. “My grandma had a very meaningful influence on my life. She passed away when I was only 18, but had been actively involved in my life growing up,” Laura stated.
Her grandmother also faced a difficult health journey when she was diagnosed with cancer, yet approached it with unwavering optimism and kindness. Laura remembers, “She was so optimistic and willing to try every possible treatment, and remained kind and full of happiness through everything.”
The example she set left a lasting impression on Laura’s outlook on life and work.
“She taught me how to stay true to who you are no matter the obstacles in front of you.”
Advice for Women Starting Their Careers
For women who are beginning their careers or considering the insurance industry, Laura encourages confidence balanced with curiosity and a commitment to learning.
“I think it is important that women value themselves and what they bring to the table.”
She believes growth comes from both recognizing existing strengths and embracing opportunities to expand skills. Laura said, “Understand that there are things that you will need to learn, which should be a constant catalyst for growth throughout your career, but also feel confident in the knowledge and gifts that you already have.”
Laura also stressed the importance of connection and collaboration within an organization.
“Build relationships within your organization and seek out learning opportunities. You don’t have to wait until you feel like you’re ready to be able to have a positive impact where you are now.”
The Balance Women Bring to the Industry
Laura believes one of the most valuable contributions women bring to the insurance industry is the ability to combine strategic thinking with emotional intelligence.
She said, “I think women are naturally able to balance strategic thinking and emotional intelligence, allowing us to deliver results while remaining deeply aware of the people involved.” Being able to maintain both ways of thinking and the ability to discern which best suits each individual situation can have a meaningful impact on both internal teams and client relationships.
“This balance leads to a sense of belonging in the organization, lasting partnerships, and long-term success.”
In an industry built on trust, communication, and service, Laura sees these strengths as essential to building strong teams and delivering exceptional outcomes with clarity and confidence.
