Synergy is excited to welcome Candice Posey as Specialty Risk Team Lead. Candice’s career journey has come full circle. Beginning her career with Engle Martin’s Third-Party Adjuster (TPA), the organization now known as Synergy, she built a strong foundation in the claims industry, developed lasting relationships, and gained the experience that continues to shape her approach today.
After expanding her career through additional TPA experience and several years in a carrier role as a desk examiner, Candice returns to Synergy with a broader perspective on claims, client needs, and the evolving insurance landscape.
A Foundation Built at Synergy
Candice’s introduction to the industry began at Engle Martin where she learned the fundamentals of claims by working alongside experienced professionals and building knowledge through collaboration.
“This is where I learned the industry,” Candice shared. “Sitting close to experienced adjusters and being able to bounce things off them and glean from their knowledge really helped shape my career.”
During her first chapter with the organization from 2011–2018, Candice gained valuable experience handling claims and developing the skills that continue to guide her throughout her career.
Since then, she has continued to grow her expertise, gaining a deeper understanding of policies, complex claims, and the broader impact claims decisions can have on the underwriting process.
“I’ve grown a lot in my understanding of policies, the industry, how claims impact the underwriting process, and gotten loads of experience in more complex and challenging claims,” Candice said.
A Meaningful Return
For Candice, returning to Engle Martin and Synergy represents an exciting full-circle moment.
“This is where I started my career, and it’s always felt like home,” she shared.
Throughout her career, Candice maintained strong relationships with colleagues and continued to have a solid connection with Synergy and Engle Martin.
“Even as I explored different companies and positions, I continued to utilize Synergy and Engle Martin and keep strong connections there,” Candice said. “I worked closely with Kim Majchrzak, Associate Vice President, Synergy Specialty Operations, and Laura Fagan, Synergy Associate Vice President of Client Services, years ago, as well as Russ Ashley, Vice President of Synergy Claims Operations and have a lot of respect for them as individuals, coworkers, and leaders.”
Now returning in a leader role, Candice sees this opportunity as a reflection of the trust and relationships built over the years.
“This means a lot to me; it means that my connections with the organizations have stayed solid, and Synergy is confident in me and my work product,” she said. “It makes me feel very proud.”
Leading the Specialty Risk Team
As Specialty Risk Team Lead, Candice will help guide a team responsible for handling complex programs, unique policy forms, individualized client needs, and a wide variety of claims.
When describing the Specialty Risk Team, Candice highlights the complexity and variety of the work.
“The Specialty Risk Team is a complex group of programs, with varying and unique policy forms, multiple working contracts with individualized needs that require special coordination, and a wide variety of claims in both type and size,” she explained. “It definitely keeps things interesting!”
For Candice, what makes the team stand out is the dedication of its people.
“I think it’s the dedication of the team that makes it unique,” she said. “It’s a challenging program, but Kim doesn’t shy away from challenges and equips those on her team to follow suit.”
As she steps into this leader role, Candice’s priorities are focused on supporting the team, maintaining high-quality work, and continuing to strengthen client relationships.
“My priorities are in line with those Kim already established — ensuring Synergy is putting out an excellent work product and providing examiners with the support they need to accomplish this, while simultaneously building our clients’ trust in our claim handling.”
She adds that delivering meaningful value is at the center of her approach.
“I want to be proud to have my name associated with Synergy, and this requires attention to detail and ensuring we are adding significant value to the claims we are handling for our clients.”
Looking Ahead in Specialty Risk
The insurance industry continues to evolve, and Candice is excited about the opportunities ahead.
She has seen significant changes in areas such as underwriting and the increased focus on data-driven evaluation of claims handling. However, she believes the fundamentals of strong claims professionals remain just as important.
“Many things have stayed the same — a good claims examiner still remains valuable to adjudication,” Candice said.
Looking ahead, Candice is especially interested in how emerging developments across industries such as gas, energy, and artificial intelligence may continue influencing the future of underwriting and claims. While the industry continues to change, Candice is ready to embrace what comes next.
“I’m here for the ride and ready to tackle what comes at us,” she shared. She sees continued opportunity for specialty risk to expand and support increasingly complex programs.
“Specialty Risk has a unique opportunity to continue growing and onboarding complex programs in general, and also within the areas of gas, energy, and artificial intelligence.”
